San Francisco

This post is a little overdue but I just haven't felt like sitting down and writing a long post!
Since I have known Craig I have been asking him to take me to San Francisco because I have NEVER been! Can you believe that! All the places I have been in the world I have never been there! Everyone said I would love it so I really wanted to go and thought it would be great since Craig lived up in Berkley and knew all about the city! 8 years later we finally go! It was a special trip though because we went on our 5 year anniversary! Craig's Aunt and Uncle live about 30 minutes outside the city and they have also been telling us to come visit, so we took them up on their offer and decided it would be a great idea since we will have the kids with us. We also asked Craig's Mom to come with us so we could leave the kids a few times! So on Thursday July 22nd we were off! I was a little worried because Jake had been sick, running a fever since Tuesday. Not the best time to go on vacation!
It was James and Jake's first trip on an airplane! They were both so excited! Well, we think Jake was since he has a fascination with airplanes!

Ready for take off!

James did so well on the plane, he was a little nervous when the engines started roaring and we were taking off, but he did great! We put him in the window seat so he could see everything. When we got above the clouds he thought the clouds were snow! The lady next to us even commented on how cute our kids were and how well they did! Thank goodness!

Jake slept pretty much the whole way!

We rented a car and drove to Craig's Aunt's house, we were able to go across the Golden Gate bridge right when we got there! James was really excited, as were the rest of us!

Pretty amazing!

Right after we got there we thought it would be a good time to let Jake nap and for Craig, Brianna, and I to go visit Berkley. I wanted to see where Craig went to school and we wanted to show Brianna the campus, so she can get an idea of what a college campus with a city around it is really like. I didn't take any photos, forgot my camera, but Brianna decided that she does not want to go to Berkley...ruled that one out! There are a lot of rough people there and since it was summer I think not a lot of students. I think when we saw a homeless man with a large metal funnel taped to his head that was the kicker! We got home in time for dinner and had a nice dinner at home!
Friday we went out to Sonoma. Walked around a bit, had lunch at this really cute place...

Nonna & Aunt Rebbecca

Then we went to this amusement park, that was mostly just a train and a few fair rides. We went on the 20 minute train ride, James could not wait! We did have to wait a long time for the train to start going! James waiting...love this face!

Going into the first tunnel...not to sure of the darkness!

It was the best train ride I have ever seen!

Riding by the station where Aunt Rebbecca, Nonna, & Brianna were waving to us!

At the train stop there was a little town...

And a petting zoo!
Jake walked right up to the animals, no fear!

James was also very brave and wanted to feed them! They were pretty aggressive jumping on the fence!

Walking through the real train.

That night Craig and I went out to dinner in the city for our anniversary. We went into Little Italy and had a yummy dinner at an Italian restaurant and then we went to have drinks at Top of the Mark, which is an amazing view! Of course we didn't take any pics! We had a great date though!
Craig and I went into this candy store before we left the city and bought some stuff, we bought the boys these wooden airplanes that were very fragile and both broke before we left...but they were a hit while they worked!

The view from their house!

Saturday we went in to the city and got there at lunch time because Jake took an extremely long morning nap and I didn't have the heart to wake him since he had been sick...fever did go away finally on Friday!
Waiting for Daddy and Nonna at the Wharf. James was a little cold! We thought he looked like one of the street performers in this picture! Which James was frightened by! Brianna txting of course!

Eating yummy clam chowder in a bread bowl!

Boys sharing fish & chips!

James enjoying his cotton candy!

We walked down to Pier 39 this is where it took a turn for the worse! I started feeling sick, it was cold and there were about 1000 people on the pier. I just wanted to leave. So we walked over to the cable car station to try to get on a cable car...no luck. The line was huge! So we walked up to Ghirardelli Square where it was also totally crowded and there was no way I was going to wait in line for a sundae! SO we decided to walk back to the car and drive around the city. Good call!

We went down the crookedest street in the world! Fun!

Saw Alcatraz from afar...

Then we were on a quest for this ice cream place we heard about. That took us about an hour to find, we were in a pretty sketchy area and I thought we were lost. All of a sudden this cute little ice cream place appears! Notice the graffiti on the side of the awning!

There was a line that we waited in for about a half hour and the result was good! They change their flavors every day and they have weird flavors. I had the red wine and coke! VERY good!

Amazing ice cream! Glad we tried it!
We drove back through the city and it was a great drive!
Sunday morning I woke up with a little pain in my lower back and not feeling too hot. Not anything major. I was excited because Craig told me that he thought it was going to be a good idea if all us girls went into the city to go shopping! I wanted to see the Nordstrom there because it is the only place with a spiral escalator! That must mean it is a huge Nordy's! Well a few minutes later I throw out my neck, I can hardly move!! Needless to say all our plans were canceled for the day and I went to get a massage instead. It wasn't even an enjoyable massage because I was in so much pain! Monday morning I was feeling much better, thank goodness since we had to board the plane!
All in all we had a great time and were so gracious for all our hospitality while we were there! Can't wait to go back when the boys are a little older and at a different time of year!! Maybe in another 5 years!
