Day 8 Challenge

A Picture of the Last Thing I Bought

Technically this wasn't the last thing I bought! But I didn't think my groceries today was that exciting! But besides food, this was the last thing I bought! I actually bought two of them for the boys' Birthdays. I bought them online and I am praying that I get them by Saturday because they said 5-7 days for shipping! This was on James' wish list! They are going to love them!

Hiking

Yesterday out of the blue Craig says, "Let's go on a hike." I said, "huh?" We have never been on a hike. I have never been on a hike. He says, "yea it would be something to do , just to get out and do something different." It was a gorgeous day so I said, "ok!"
I knew there are trails in Yorba Linda so I looked online to see where they are and how to get there. There is one a couple blocks up from my Mom's house! So after Jake's nap we headed up there. I couldn't believe it when we started walking that these trails have been there for SO long and I have never been on them!
These pictures were all taken from my phone so they aren't that great!

James loved the "adventure". When it was time to turn around because we needed to get back while we still had sunlight he was so sad. He wanted to keep on hiking!

I don't think I could come up here with just the boys because pushing the stroller was very hard on the hills! But we got a great work out!

James wanted a rest.

On our way down we finally let Jake get down and walk a bit!

I wish I had my camera because we even saw a coyote in the distance! We all enjoyed it so much it will definitely be something we do more often! Craig and James enjoyed it so much they are back there right now while Jake is napping! Quiet time for me! :)

Day 7 Challenge

A Favorite Recipe

Wow, this is a hard one for me! I have so many favorite recipes. I like to cook and I love getting new yummy recipes. I mostly cook pastas but can't pick a favorite one. So I am picking my favorite crock-pot recipe. My new found love!

Cuban Braised Beef and Peppers
Serves 4

1 28-ounce can diced tomatoes, drained
2 red bell peppers
1 onion- cut into 8 wedges
2 teaspoons of dried oregano
1 teaspoon ground cumin, (optional)
1 teaspoon of Kosher salt and black pepper
1.5lbs. of flank steak, cut crosswise into thirds
Rice
Avocado sliced
Fresh cilantro, cut for garnish

In a slow cooker combine tomatoes, pepper, onion, oregano, cumin, salt, pepper. Nestle steak among vegetables. Cook until meat is tender and pulls apart easily. On high for 4-5 hours or low for 7-8 hrs.

25 minutes before serving cook rice.
Using two forks shred meat in pot and mix into cooking liquid. Serve with rice and top with sliced avocado and cilantro.
id. Serve with rice and to with sliced avocado and cilantro.

I highly suggest you try it and if you do let me know how you like it!

Day 6 Challenge

15 Facts About Me

1.) I am a major hair player. I play with my hair so much that it really bothers my husband. I can't help it, if I am doing nothing I just do it. I don't know why I do it, I think to just keep my hands busy.
2.) I have visited more countries than I have states.
3.) I lived in the same house from the time I was born until the time I got married!
4.) I can NOT handle spicy food. I don't like to eat it. I don't understand why people like their mouth burning on fire while they are trying to enjoy the flavors of their food.
5.) I want to sky-dive before I die.
6.) I have never played a team sport. I did dance when I was young and then gymnastics from the time I was 5-15 years old. Even though the gym had a team, I don't consider it a team sport.
7.) I have never had a cavity or a broken bone! Knock on wood!
8.) I want to learn how to play golf so Craig and I can play together in our old age.
9.) I am most afraid of losing someone I love too soon.
10.) I have 2 tattoos and have had my eyebrows tattooed.
11.) I wish I played an instrument and wanted to marry someone who did. Craig plays guitar!
12.) I also wished I spoke another language and maybe want to learn one some day.
13.) I love being pregnant. Except at the end with James...swollen feet and carrying around a 9lb. 9oz. baby!
14.) I am not a morning person, it is so hard to get out of bed every day. I wish I could sleep until 9 every day!
15.) I am so proud of my daughter and the women she is becoming. I can't wait to see what becomes of the boys as they get older!

Day 5 Challenge

Something that Stresses Me Out

I guess I stress out a lot, I am always worrying about something or concerned about something. I don't really think it is "bad" stress I think it is just being a parent, a wife, and a home-owner! I don't want to bore you with my stress list or stress myself out any more talking about it so sorry this post is so boring! I will have a better post tomorrow! :)

Proud Parents !!

For Christmas we got James a board puzzle of the United States. We thought it would be good to help him learn his states and show him places we talk about. When we opened it I thought this looks hard, too hard for him. The pieces don't connect and there is no place for the piece to go into. So he started getting interested in it about a month ago and right away he did so well. Craig and I were totally tripping out. So on Tuesday it was the first time James did the puzzle all BY HIMSELF! With no questions asked! I couldn't believe it! So proud! Now he just has to get all the names of the states!!

Day 4 Challenge

A Picture of Me 2 Years Ago

This is the closest picture to 2 years ago I have of myself. Well I do have some closer to today's date, but those are ugly pictures of me in the hospital right after Jake was born. There was not a good one to post! I also thought it would be more fun to post a picture of the whole family 2 years ago to see how much everyone has changed! Obviously Jake has the most!
This picture was 4-12-09 Easter Sunday

Day 3 Challenge

My Favorite Photograph of my Best Friend

My Mom...my Mom is my Best Friend. I don't know if I would have said that about 8 years ago. Then I probably would have said Craig, and he is and always will be my best friend as well. But he is my best friend in a different way. Or maybe I would have said one of my girlfriends. I do have a lot of close girlfriends that I love very much. But now and probably since I have gotten older and wiser my Mom is my best friend and always will be. I love my relationship with my Mom. I can talk to her about anything and she always has advice and a way to fix things! Maybe because she is a therapist...but I am so glad she is so I don't have to pay to go to one! LOL! I am always calling her for answers and she always has an answer for everything, whether it be how to fix something in the house, or a cooking question, or a kid question. It is so true the saying, Mother always knows! We go on morning walks on Wednesdays, (although we haven't in about a month, we need to get on that Mom) and I love that time together. An hour for us to talk and not really have interruptions from the kids! We are over at her house all the time. Sometimes 3 nights a week for dinner! She is home on Wednesdays and Fridays and it never fails that we are not over there! In my last post I said I love living close to family, if we didn't live this close there is no way we could spend that much time together! I don't think I could live any further! Sometimes I think maybe we should give them their space, but for me losing my Dad at a young age, I want to spend as much time with her as I can and want my kids to as well! My kids love going there. They have just as many toys there as they do at home, they love playing in her yard, or going swimming in the summer. She is such a big help in so many ways and has supported me through some really tough times. I don't know what I would do without her!
I love this picture of her and James because my Mom loves to cook and she does it SO well! And James LOVES to cook with her. Well he likes to cook mostly desserts with her! Here they are making his favorite Lemon Ricotta Muffins!
I love you Mom!

Day 2 Challenge

20 of my Favorite things!

1. My Family- I obviously love my little family but I also love my extended family so much. I am so glad I have such a big, close family. It's the best!

2. My Friends- my friends all have a special place in my heart, I love having girls nights out, meeting up with girlfriends to have play dates with our kids, exercising with them, scrapbooking with them, going out for coffee, shopping, and couples nights!

3. Being a Mom- The best thing, and I love being a stay-at-home Mom. Wouldn't want to change it for the world!

4. The Beach- I love the beach. I love the smell of it, I love the sand in my toes (and only in my toes), I absolutely love it at about 4:00 in the summer, it is still warm and the sun is a little less hot, people are starting to leave, it is my favorite. I love the ocean when it is warm enough for me to handle! I love watching the boys playing in the sand. I love that Brianna wants to spend every day at he beach because I was the same way at her age! And I love my in-laws live there and it makes going to the beach SO much easier with the boys!

5. Pictures- I love taking pictures and I love looking at pictures. I love looking at old pictures. Every so often I will get out old photo albums at my Mom's and look at them. Or our wedding album! Which leads me to...

6. Scrapbooking- I love DIGITAL scrapbooking. I am SO glad my friend Lindsay got me into this. I love it and it really is my hobby. The books are so great and so much better than old scrapbooking! We have started scrapbooking nights and I LOVE those too!

7. Sweets- I have a sweet tooth. Every day/night I have to have something. Ice-cream, cookies, or chocolate candy of some sort!

8. Pedicures- My favorite thing to do for myself, by myself! I love reading People magazine while I have one, my guilty pleasure. I used to get one every 2 weeks before I was married and had kids. Now MAYBE once a month!

9. Vacation- Love traveling, seeing new places or going back to old favorites!

10. Shopping- For clothes. Who doesn't love shopping?? I don't even care if it isn't for myself! One of my jobs I would have wanted...personal shopper/stylist!

11. Living close to Family- I love that all my family lives so close. I love that my Mom lives 7 minutes from us and one of my brothers lives 4 minutes from us. And Craig's family, minus one sister lives only 30 minutes from us. I couldn't ever imagine being far away from them!

12. Coffee- I have two cups every morning and wish I could drink it all the time. I can't start my day without it!

13. Good Restaurants- I love to go out to eat. To "nice" restaurants where we wouldn't take the kids. I would much rather go to a nice restaurant than do something else for date night or my Birthday. We also love to find "the best of", we are always looking online for the best pizza, hamburger, or just last weekend fried chicken!

14. The Crock-pot- I love to cook, but I love the crock pot. I was just introduced to it last year and so enjoy it. I love throwing it all in, having everything cleaned up and it has really helped me since I have to pick up Brianna half the year at 5:00 from track practice at Servite. We don't get home till 5:30 and dinner is all ready!

15. Family Outings- I love getting out of the house and doing something fun on the weekends. And I love when Brianna joins us, which isn't very often since she is so busy with her teenage life!

16. Disneyland passes- I am so happy we have Disneyland passes. I never thought I would say I love going to Disneyland but I do! It is so much fun with the kids. I love seeing them get so excited and I love being to go for a few hours and not feel guilty because the tickets are so expensive!

17. Tennis- I love playing tennis and miss playing it with my Mom. I can't wait till the boys are both in school and I can have some time to do it again! I want to join a Woman's league.

18. A clean house- I love when my house is clean, which is not very often with three kids and a not so neat husband.

19. DVR- One of the best inventions. I don't know how parents ever watched TV before. We watch everything on DVR and if we didn't we would probably not watch anything. I love not having to watch commercials. It let's me record my favorite shows and my number one show I am obsessed with is Real Housewives. I watch EVERY city!!

20. Blogging-I love that I have my blog. Even if no one reads it it is such a great thing to have. I print out my whole blog for the year and I love that it is like a little yearbook of our family. I also love reading other peoples' blogs and designing new headers for my blog!

Day 1 Challenge:
A photo of myself...well looking through our pictures there is not one photo I could find with a picture of just me. So here is the most recent picture of me. Unbelievably it was just last week!

And this is how my day was...
Today was Presidents Holiday so Brianna had no school. It was my turn to sleep in. YAY! When Jake woke up at 6:00 this morning Craig got up with him and I got to go back to sleep. We take turns sleeping in. But my sleeping in is not like his sleeping in. When he gets to sleep in the door is shut and the kids don't bother him. When I sleep in James usually lays in bed with me which consists of James moving around constantly while I TRY to sleep. So this morning when I got to sleep in I was actually woken up by Craig at 7:00 saying Jake feels very warm and just threw up! Lovely! It would have been a perfect sleeping in morning because James actually got up and went downstairs by himself without waking me up! So I get up, take Jake's temp which was 100.6 and go down to clean up the throw up that happen to be on our rug. Of all places he couldn't of hit the wood floors downstairs?? Ugh...I am so over everyone being sick!!!

After Jake was taken care of I got myself some breakfast and a cup of coffee and sat down to read a couple of pages in my magazine while I eat. That is pretty much my routine breakfast. I did some things around the house, like emptying the dishwasher and then got ready for my day. It was an emotional morning for me because today is my Dad's Birthday. It really hit me harder this year. I don't know why, the only thing I can think of is because my boys never knew him and they are getting older. And the more they are able to do I wish they did know him and got to experience life with him. I think maybe I am a little hormonal too, so that can add to my tears!

Anyway, I had a fun day planned for the boys. We were meeting my friend Lindsay at the park with her kids. Unfortunately Jake could not come with us so he stayed home with Daddy. It was so nice actually...sorry Jake, but it was really nice just to have to worry about one kid! We had such a nice time at the park. And after the park we went to McDonald's for lunch where the kids played in the jungle gym for another hour or so! We were out playing for 4 hours! James had so much fun and I had a great time chatting with my girlfriend!

When we got home it was back to the routine, held my sick little boy for a bit. Awe, his fever was going up and he was so tired. I had to go to the grocery store, pick up Brianna from track practice and because it was my Dad's birthday we like to celebrate him. So we got some Mexican food and had a beer to cheers to him!

Jake didn't have a fever the rest of the night and he was acting normal so I was happy about that. Hopefully it stays that way through the night. Boys were in bed at 8:30 after a normal night of some TV, play time, and reading.

This is it for me and I am off to check some emails and watch some adult TV with the husband!
So this wasn't that difficult! Hopefully I can keep up with it and keep on track!

Our Valentine's Birthday

Our little Valentine baby turned TWO! How is it he is two already?!? It seems like he has been in our lives forever, I can hardly remember life without him but yet it feels like he was just born yesterday!

I was just reading Jake's 18 month post and really not much has changed since then. He still is very independent, wanting to do everything himself. One big thing right now is brushing his own teeth and putting on the toothpaste himself. He can't even get the toothpaste out of the tube and onto his toothbrush but he HAS to hold the tube while brushing his teeth. I don't know why he does this, no one else does! This bothers me because he ends up putting the tube in his mouth and trying to suck it out. I don't think that is very healthy right?? So he is usually crying by the end of the tooth brushing session because he didn't get his way!

He also still has quite a temper. At times we often think his head is going to start turning around! The temper often comes from his independence and wanting to do things himself but not being able to do things himself. He gets very frustrated when he can't do something. Or if things aren't quite perfect for him and he can't express that to us. Or if his Bother, oh I mean Brother is bugging him. When this happens he often tends to hit, kick, or bite. Not good. He is spending some of his time in time out and now understands it and stays there. Often he will be a nice Brother and even sit with James in time out when James is in time out! He makes up for his evilness with his cuteness...

Which leads me to the little mimic. Jake still and probably always will want to do what James does. The one thing that drives me nuts is when we are eating. If James is done than Jake is done, even if he's not! He wants to get down also and go play. One thing I love is when Jake wants to play with James. I love when they play nicely together and no one is screaming over a toy or taking toys from each-other!

Everything that James says, Jake says too. One big thing around here lately has been the word stupid. Craig, Brianna, and I use that word very often. We don't even think about it. Well since James now not only picks up on everything but also says everything he has been using that word. Not a good word for a 3 year old to be saying. We have told him it is not a nice word to say. Now whenever one of us or anyone for that matter says stupid James tells that person, "Don't say stupid!" Of course now Jake says that phrase. He doesn't only say it once, he says it over and over. Many times no one has even said the word!! He is now the one that needs to stop saying it!

He talking so well lately. In the last month or so his vocabulary has really picked up. He is putting 3 or 4 words together. He loves picking out animals and making animal sounds. He is learning his colors and numbers and we are really working on his alphabet but he has no idea! Every letter is "B". He can sing the ABCs but he does not know which is which! I was telling the Dr. this and he said, "That is totally normal, he is only two, what he can't read yet either?" I guess my other two children were such early talkers and knowing these things that I feel like he is the left behind third child! But I guess he is doing just fine!

I have dubbed the name "Little Mexican Jumping Bean" for Jake. Since he is partially Mexican, it works! I remember always getting those little beans when we were down in Mexico! Jake is definitely the jumper. We often wonder where this jumping is going to lead him later in life. Is he going to be a gymnast, a high jumper, a long jumper, is he going to jump out of planes...I hope not! He jumps off of anything and everything that he can. He even just jumps around for the heck of it. My Mom has a step at her house that leads into the back playroom. It NEVER fails that he is running down the hallway, stops at the end and jumps! It's so funny!

Cars are still Jake's favorite toys. Or anything with wheels for that matter. Trucks, tractors, and I have now learned the difference between a tractor, skid steer, backhoe loader, and bulldozer! We have all of them and the boys love to play out in the dirt with them. I think that is one of the favorite things to do is play in the dirt! And one of my least favorite things, but I am learning to accept it and just let them do it since they love it so much, then put them right in the bath when they are done. Jake is also a little more of a dare-devil than James, maybe because he already has the horns on his head! Kidding... but he is into more frightening things than James. He likes the movies that James would never watch, like Toy story, I know what you are thinking Toy Story scary, but yes to James' defense it is a little frightening. I think all those Disney movies have a bit of that...not Cars though! He also loves the movie Up. We are frequently watching that movie, more than Cars now!

You have obviously know that Jake is obsessed with his blankie and has dropped the binki! He is still sleeping in his crib but I think is really on the verge of going into a big boy bed. I have found him standing on his tip toes leaning on the side of the crib. It will be time soon to do that transfer and I am not looking forward to that one!

He has shown no interest in potty training yet but has sat once on the toilet and didn't do anything. Also in the bath one day he was screaming for no apparent reason and come to find out he had to go potty, we didn't get the diaper on fast enough and as soon as he got out of the bath peed on the floor! But at least he is getting the sensation! YAY, I may have a child potty trained early!

Jake is so much of a little baby to me still. Although he is doing all the things he is supposed to and making big changes he still seems like a little baby. He is a little cuddler and wants to be held a lot. He always wants to sit on your lap. The way he looks and his size also makes him look babyish to me. Although did have his 2 year doctor appointment and he is actually growing a lot! He weighed 30.4lbs. and in the 75% and his height is 34.4" and is in the 50%. That is the biggest percentile he has ever been in!

For Valentines Day and Jake's Birthday we decided to go to Disneyland for the afternoon. I had heard that some schools were off that day but we thought oh well, let's just go the nice thing about having passes we can always leave! We got there about 10:30 and it was crowded! Almost like a summer day. The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold and I guess everyone thought it would be a good thing to do on Valentine's day!
As soon as we got there we went straight over to the Autopia ride. Of course it was broken! So we headed over to another favorite ride...the rockets!
Daddy and Jake in line for the rockets.

Isn't his shirt cute?? I saw it and had to buy it!

Waiting to go to Pirate Island, aka Tom Sawyer's Island.

The only picture I sorta got with me in it! On the boat to the island!

James was SO scared to go to the island. He thought we were going to see Pirates. He didn't even know what the island was called, he just saw a pirate flag. As you can see his nervous face above!

When we got there and James saw there were no pirates they had so much fun running around!

Found the pot of gold!

Climbed the tree house

Crossed the bridge.

After Tom Sawyer's Island we headed over to California Adventure to go run around the Country Bear Playground. By the time we got there Jake fell asleep so James and I ran around there for awhile. After that we headed home. Even though there were crowds we didn't really encounter them since we only went on one ride! It was kinda nice!
It was perfect, we got home around 3 and it gave me enough time to make a pasta dinner!
Jake listening to his Auntie Chris and cousins sing Happy Birthday to him. He sang with them! So cute!

All the Valentines James made at Nonna's house for all of us!

The heart shape cake I made...

Showing his temper because he is not sitting close enough to the cake...hold on one moment!

Happy now!

Getting ready to blow...

He blew it out!

Yay!

Kids saying ILY (I love you) for those of you who don't know acronyms!

Mmmm Cake

Presents! James could not wait for Jake to open his presents! I took James with me to get them two days before and just about every hour James was asking if Jake could open his present. He even told Jake what we got him, good thing Jake didn't understand!

Toy Story toys!!!

He loved them!

Happy 2nd Birthday to our Baby Boy!

RICKY

Last night we had a pretty bad scare. Actually we have had a few scares with Ricky lately. More due to health issues. A couple months ago he had worms, which was disgusting, then last week he had an overdose of dog bones thanks to Jake. Now we keep the dog bones on top of the refrigerator! Last night we lost Ricky. We always put Ricky outside when we eat dinner because I don't want Jake to feed Ricky all his food. After I put the boys to bed I thought Ricky was still outside. I opened the back door and he didn't come, sometimes he hides on the side of the house. If we call his name and close the door he comes running to the door. He didn't come. So we got the flashlight and looked on the side of the house, nope not there. Brianna had come home earlier and was getting something for her Dad so she left the front door open for awhile. I was sure that is when Ricky got out. He usually goes outside and just sniffs around, walks down the street. He is not a runner thank goodness. So I went up to tell Brianna and we got in the car to drive around. We drove around our complex very slowly twice looking and calling his name. We couldn't find him. Brianna was making me very nervous while she was saying things like what if we don't find him, what are you going to tell James, what if he got out the gate, mind you Ricky did NOT have a collar on. He never wears one. I hate hearing the jingling of the collar. Since we couldn't find him I thought well let's head out the gate. Hoping he didn't get hit by a car. I really didn't think he was out there, I didn't think he would get out that far. But Brianna insisted. So we drove up and down, looking and calling his name. Couldn't find him. Then I really got nervous, started to tear up. Brianna kept asking how we are going to find him, it was making me feel worse. We came home and I looked up online how to find your dog. We told Craig we couldn't find him and he said, make some signs. Brianna and I went right upstairs to make some signs. Craig went out to drive around the block. As Brianna and I were making the signs, we had a picture loaded up and LOST DOG written and we hear Craig come home. I thought that was pretty fast. I listened carefully to see if I could hear him talk to Ricky. He came in the door and said HE FOUND HIM! Some neighbor lady was walking him! She found him at 5:00 and it was now 10:30!! So it wasn't when Brianna came home. Brianna and I actually weren't even home! I was picking her up from track practice. SO we have no idea how he slipped out! Ahem ahem.... The lady said he was a very good dog, very well trained. They didn't have a dog so she got a rope as a leash and walked him around to see if anyone was out looking for him! Thank goodness she did that. She had done it earlier but no one knew whose dog it was! She thought she would try one more time for the night and then she was going to make signs in the morning. So glad we didn't have to do that! Now Ricky has a collar on and it will not be coming off!!!

bEaCh TiMe??

This past weekend we had such nice weather. Saturday it was 8o degrees! We were out running errands and James asked if we could go to the beach. I told him we couldn't because we had plans but maybe if the weather was this nice tomorrow we could go because we had nothing going on. Sunday morning he woke up and came in my room, it was a little early for him so I told him to go back to his room and go to bed. I heard his closet open and was wondering what he was doing. He came back in my room whining that he could not find his bathing suit! He was ready to go to the BEACH! That afternoon wasn't as warm as the day before but it was still a beautiful day so we headed down to he beach!
Perfect day at the beach...

In heaven

Going to get some water

Looking at little clams

I buried James' feet. He loves having his feet buried, I want to do his whole body but he won't let me.

Hanging out with Daddy

James building castles and Jake coming to ruin it!

So happy playing in the sand

Awe, hugs

Walking to the rocks

Some people had built this mound of sand but were not there anymore. The boys loved playing on it. And our little jumper boy kept jumping off of it.

Top of the mountain!

Nonna & Grampy came down to watch the boys play. Jake showing Nonna how he jumps of the mound of sand!
